  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup whole milk room temperature
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs room temperature
  • 1.5 cups heavy cream for frosting
  • 1 cup powdered sugar for frosting

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  3. Add butter, milk, and vanilla extract. Beat with an electric mixer for 2 minutes.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, beat the heavy cream and powdered sugar together until stiff peaks form. Use to frost the cooled cake layers.

Notes

For a decorative touch, add edible flowers or chocolate shavings as a garnish.
